The Omni Homestead Resort

Ski resorts in USA
The Omni Homestead Resort is more than a National Historic Landmark. It is home to the largest hot springs in the commonwealth of Virginia, championship golf courses, and the oldest ski resort in the state. Visitors have enjoyed all sorts of winter activities here since 1959, and the accommodations alone will have people returning again and again.

Those looking to reach this part of Virginia by Interstate can use I-64 to Covington before transferring onto US Route 220. Drivers from the Washington DC area can use I-64 and I-81. Visitors flying into the region will likely land at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Two and a Half Centuries of History

Anyone visiting the Omni Homestead Resort will discover it was cleared and settled in 1766, with the modern resort purchased by J. P. Morgan in the late 1800s. The venue has hosted world leaders, including several Presidents of the United States, and those amenities are available to skiers and riders today.

Exquisite rooms, studios, and suites are available here and offer the latest in-room technology. The dining room provides the best in Southern dishes and hospitality. Guests can also enjoy in-room dining, bars, restaurants, and markets at the Omni Homestead Resort.

The hot springs are a popular draw here, as are the two-acre outdoor pool and the spring-fed indoor pool area. A modern fitness center provides skiers and snowboarders a workout away from the slopes using the latest workout equipment. Wellness and relaxation are available at the extensive spa facilities. Several off-site attractions and shopping experiences are available within driving distance, completing the experience and making a stay at the Omni Homestead Resort worth the time.

A Small Resort with a Big To-Do List

The Omni Homestead Resort has an annual average snowfall amount that reaches only 50 inches. Like other southern ski areas, snowmaking is a must. Not only are the 40 acres of skiable terrain covered by snowmaking equipment, but extra winter facilities also have snowmaking capabilities.

The base of the Omni Homestead Resort rests at around 2,500 feet. A summit height of 3,200 feet gives the winter venue a vertical drop of 700 feet. That is plenty of potentials for the family-friendly and laid-back attitude of skiers and riders here. A small ice skating rink offers a break for alpine enthusiasts if they want to try blades instead of planks (near the outdoor pool).

The Omni Homestead Resort maintains ten runs across the slopes here, with over half of the terrain (55-percent) rated blue for intermediates to ski and ride down. Around 35-percent of the trails are rated green for beginners to explore, leaving only 10-percent of the mountain rating at a black diamond for advanced ripping and shredding. The longest run is about 4,200 feet in length.

Penguin Slides Tubing Park offers another way to enjoy the snow (natural and machine-made) at the Omni Homestead Resort. The venue's mini-snowmobiles are a unique feature that guests will reminisce about when they get home from their ski & ride vacation.
