(Ski Press)-Big Daddy, Sugar Daddy and Stomp are the names Atomic plans to ride into the freeride arena next season. After building their new reputation on champion-quality race skis for the likes of Hermann Maier and Daron Rahlves, Atomic has committed to launching a full line of freeride skis for the first time next season. At the top of the new food chain is the Big Daddy, a super big-rig freeride ski that’s almost as wide as a snowboard with dimensions of 133/107/123 and a one-size-fits-all length of 193 centimeters. A big mountain ski even for freeriders whose Alaska dreams end at the top of their local chairlift, the Big Daddy has pro-rider-style dimensions and a long turn radius, with a target at the kind of skier who really does ski big lines out of bounds when no one else is watching. It’s the first ski Atomic has built with the help of its new U.S. freeride team, formed last season, and the kickoff for a whole new line. “Atomic’s one of the few companies that listens to the athletes and is really, really responsive to our suggestions,” Atomic team skier and X-Games Skiercross champ Zack Crist said in a statement. “I’ve literally been able to walk in and design skis.” For the middle of its freeride, park-ride, lift-ride market, Atomic will introduce the Sugar Daddy, a 129/99/116 dimension twin-tip, fat boy in the pipe ski for young guys with knees who really will ski the whole frontside of the mountain. With the same dimensions albeit a more specialized flex, Atomic also plans to introduce the Stomp, a true twintip for skiers who don’t plan on skiing off the man-made piste next season. 163 cm (122/99/112) 173 cm (124/99/114) 183 cm (126/99/116) |
