The Line Optic 96 is a directional freeride ski for experienced skiers who enjoy high speed and want a stable but still playful platform. With 96 mm underfoot and a modern freeride shape, it works as an all-round model for those who ride everything from piste to groomed off-piste and lighter powder days.
The core consists of aspen with veneer, which gives it low weight and a fast, responsive feel. On top is Line's Gas Pedal Metal Overdrive - titanal plates that cover the width of the ski underfoot and continue as two separate reinforcements towards the tip and tail. Underfoot, the metal provides clear edge grip, a smooth ride and good damping on hard surfaces. The split plates in the tip and tail contribute extra power and stability at high speed, without making the ski sluggish or bumpy in uneven snow conditions.
The sidecut is based on Line's 5-Cut geometry, where five radii are combined in the same ski. In practice, this means that the Optic 96 feels intuitive to control, with support for both short and long turns. The directional flex – softer at the front, stiffer at the back – makes turn entry easy and forgiving while giving you good support and grip throughout the turn and out of it as the pace increases.
The tip and tail have early flex that moves the contact points closer to the center of the ski. This provides better float in softer snow and faster edge change on hard surfaces. The ski therefore feels nimble from edge to edge but stands stable when you really push.
Vertical sidewalls in dense polyethylene contribute to vibration damping and efficient power transfer, while 2 mm wide and 2.5 mm high steel edges together with a 1.7 mm thick base provide good durability with heavy riding and frequent servicing.
The end result is a freeride ski with hard park genes that can handle piste, wind-packed snow, packed terrain and lighter powder with the same basic characteristics: stable, strong on the edge and confident at speed, but flexible enough for tree skiing and more technical terrain.
