Praxis Skis has strived to create skis thinking outside the box, designing skis that stand out and are revolutionary within an increasingly competitive industry. The Concept ski is a great example of this and after a couple years on the hill with many reviews and lots of feedback it’s obvious we are onto something with this model.
Considering the incredibly positive feedback we’ve received about this ski since it’s inception, only slight improvements have been made for 2013. We know it is hard to imagine, but with a larger sidecut radius in the ski’s forebody and a minor tweak to the Tri Cut bump, this ski will ride even better in more snow conditions.
The Basics:
The Concept ski has tip and tail taper, a sidecut radius, and reverse sidecut underfoot! This transfers to a very complex design. The rationale that clicked and caused Praxis to go forward with the design “Concept” is sort of simple; when the ski was put on edge and engaged into a turn on hard snow it would create 3 contact points at the tip, underfoot, and tail. In other words, a three-point sidecut radius. In-between these contact points are two alternative sidecut radiuses. With a perceived sidecut radius when the ski is fully engaged on the 3 points. The results are what we call the Praxis Tri-Cut.
Why is this better? In so many ways this design accomplishes what we were looking for in a hybrid-type ski. We created a ski that would ride an edge on groomers and ski well around the resort. A ski that follows the “fatter underfoot theory of weight distribution”, a ski that has the ability to carve and slarve, pivot or slip or hold an edge. After many days testing the Concept, we realized the ski offered more, however. Something we have never experienced; The Concept ski has increased edge-power/hold underfoot, it locks into a turn in a way you have never experienced. We relate this ski to the Swiss Army Knife of skis, it has the design tools to do the job! You just have to ski them to believe it.
Also featured in the Concept is Praxis’ own Compound Camber. This one-of-a-kind take on traditional camber designs is an obvious evolution for the Tri-Cut idea. The molding matches the sidecut with rocker underfoot. There is a very mellow rocker platform with two camber pods in front and behind the bindings flowing into to tip and tail splay. The results are awesome. Put the ski on edge and it magnifies the sidecut properties, flatten out the base and slarve the ski and it magnifies the slarve properties. Although this molding is tough to explain the PDF specs of the ski show this Concept very well.
