Slovenian ski brand Elan showed the world it´s foldable ski Ibex Tactix back in 2017, it was a ski developed for military jumping out of helicopters with parachutes. Since then Ibex Tactix has hit the market and serves people who do ski tours and wants to have a foldable ski for that.
Voyager are made for groomers in the ski resort. Marketed as a “all mountain” but it´s more of a pure pist ski as we see it. The mechanism behind both Voyager and Ibex Tactix is Elan’s “Connect Technology”. Basically a hinge and a four-axis mechanism that bonds and seals the ski together at the folding joint. This combines with a carbon-reinforced fusion plate that serves as a load-bearing platform for support. Turning the plate in place and looking it, and you´re good to go skiing. Unlocking the plate and then rotating it frees the hinge, and you can fold the ski.
