Strengths:
Heavy fabric, good heat.
Weaknesses:
The intended mobile pocket is too small for an average smartphone with connected headphone cord.
Summary:
Tested: 9 day Powder Riding in Gudauri
Former reference jacket: Faction Darwin Jacket.
Rider: 190 cm, 90 kg.
Helly Hansen's premium rack Elevate 2.0 contains more features than an average Iphone. When I looked at specifications before I got the jacket, most felt superfluous but after a little more than a week with it I realized that it was stuff I was happy to have there.
The first feeling when I put on the jacket was that it was a bit stiff to wear because the fabric is quite rough, but through the sewn panels on my back I had quite good mobility anyway. The colors are a bit screaming but for a jacket made for off-piste skiing, visibility can hardly be considered negative. In both material and cutting, one can imagine that they have taken inspiration from the sailing world.
The strongest feeling, however, is that the jacket feels safe, a little strange thing to say about an outer garment but when you wear it feels bushy forest and sharp rocks a little more affordable. It is not a garment that will break or become cold for the smallest little one.
I am one of those people who rather get too hot and sweat a lot so a concern I had was that the jacket would be very warm. The panels in the back, however, seem to create some form of air duct and despite the rough fabric, the jacket breathes well which made long trips considerably more comfortable.
With these things said, there are some flaws, if you like me like to listen to music while skiing, it becomes difficult to use the so-called life-pocket (A heated pocket to keep mobile / action camera alive longer). The mobile phone with a headphone cord simply cannot fit. Whether or not non-removable snow locks are a bad thing or do I leave to you who reads this. Personally, I am somewhat hesitant about the very high neck but if you are a skater who is more often in shit-fuck-conditions you will love it!
To sum it up, this is a jacket I without hesitation would recommend to powder travelers, the breathing pockets hold a smaller hand luggage and the quality of the jacket there is no fault whatsoever.
