Manufacturers description
The first hardshell with pure merino wool on the skin.
The MERINO GUARDIAN SHELL is, and remains, the benchmark in HARDSHELL COMFORT. Whether you are climbing off-piste for a powder run or already on the descent, making an unforgettable line in the snow, with the MERINO 3L GUARDIAN SHELL JACKET, you will be ideally equipped for anything. The inside of the jacket, which is made completely of merino wool, provides unique wear comfort, whilst the hardshell exterior, with its highly functional Toray DERMIZAX EV membrane, and with a water column of at least 20,000mm, protects you from the wet and cold, and is also absolutely windproof. And when things get really strenuous, the wool on the inside ensures a perfect climate for the skin and simply transports excess moisture outwards.
The second edition of the 3L GUARDIAN SHELL JACKET also impresses with its light weight. Thanks to the lightweight materials and improved features, we have managed to save around 150 grams. The hook and loop cuffs are softer and more robust, and wool inserts in the chin area, improved hood drawstrings and the handy underarm ventilation zippers increase your feel-good factor and make our 3L GUARDIAN SHELL JACKET even more functional. With the help of new processing technologies, we have managed to make the seams even flatter, ensuring that your freeriding jacket is more durable and offering you even more powder adventures with your new favorite item. And, quite apart from all the functional benefits, the GUARDIAN SHELL just looks cool!

Strengths:
Without rankings: no-friction, transporting moisture extremely well (significantly better than gore-tex), good quality, waterproof zippers even after several washes and a couple of seasons, smart and functional solutions throughout. The ventilation openings also work in rainfall without water flowing. The four-way stretch works well and the fabric is followable. The hood is a helmet compatible with a high enough collar to protect well in bad weather in the mountains. The layers in the fabric last for a long time (in my case so far three years and still going strong), which means that the fabric retains its water and windproof function. The innermost layer of merino wool makes the cold moisture that usually appears after a while the jacket is a memory only.
Weaknesses:
With clear mutual ranking: PRICE-Regular Price is ridiculously high. The material in the hand pockets gives up relatively quickly, much faster than the rest of the garment. Have a slalom, go up one size. The jacket is quite small in size, especially over the hips. The merino layer in the jacket does not like Velcro contact, so be careful with Velcro at the cuffs and waist adjustment on the pants. If it breaks, it's run to fix.
Summary:
In spite of the price, it will be a full score. I'm wearing both pants and jacket from Ortovox 3L collection. Previously, I have run in all sorts of varieties of both two- and three-layer clothing from Norröna, Peak Performance, Sweet protection, Bergans, Elevenate, Black Diamond, and more. They are good, but this is simply better.
