Strengths:
Thin, comfortable membrane. Sickly high breathability. Good size of hood.
Weaknesses:
Ventilation zippers + pockets are not a good combo.
Summary:
Super nice jacket in The North Face's record-thin Futurelight membrane. Completely waterproof but with terribly good ventilation. Has i.a. took a whole day uphill in this jacket (!) when it blew really lightly on the bare mountain, without perishing in sweat. But ironically, ventilation is also the jacket's weakness. That the membrane breathes well is great, but there are still times where I want to be able to scoop with open ventilation zippers as well.
The pockets on this jacket leave a lot to be desired. It is a good idea to be able to have the zippers open for ventilation during the way up, and then closed with space for risers. But if you sometimes want to do the opposite - store something in your pocket on the way up and blow on with ventilation on the way down, you are eaten. If you need to ventilate, you have to sacrifice gadgets that fall out along the road. Same with the chest pocket for the phone - it is accessed as if from the inside, so you either have to fiddle in via the ventilation / riser pocket or open the zipper at the front.
Will definitely look at more jackets in this material in the future (dream for girls who are wider over the hips and would rather buy a size up on a jacket with want to avoid stiff wavy fabric at the top of breasts & shoulders). But it may be one with classic ventilation zippers under the arms next time.
