Manufacturers description
Rise Beyond 98 - Superlight Freeride Tour Setup as Völkl describes it. A super light ski with freeride properties, where the geometry and dimensions of the skis are based on popular freeride models, but Rise Beyond 98 has got lighter woods (Paulownia), milled air ducts and a lot of more edible things to further lighten the weight (but never compromise on torsional rigidity ) Perfect to mount with Kingpin, Alpinist or a Marker frame binding type F12 EPF. ICE OFF topsheet and Carbon tips. Weight for Rise Beyond 98 @ 170cm 1390 grams (!!!)

Strengths:
Light and easy to ride as long as you stand on the center of the foot. Surprisingly good to carve corduroy with.
Weaknesses:
Ice grip not the best, nervous when it is hard and hit - is after all a lucky ski.
Summary:
The first time I rode them I was shocked at how soft the rear ends were. But after getting used to them, I appreciate that they are very all-round. I often use them both in piste, powder and on tour just because it works perfectly ok in most conditions. Also practical to handle when teaching toddlers to ski (depending on the binding choice - Tecton in my case). Would have given them four stars if it were because they are not skis for everyone. If you are heavy and ski powerfully, they probably do not work at all. Instead, you should be light or be able to lie balanced in the middle to get the most out of it.
