But new lift in place that is far more reliable than the old top lifts, Alagna has the chance to live a little while waiting for the "big" change; new lift up to 3700 m.

After that, it's only a matter of time before the charm disappears too good :)

Edit offpist and even better for those who can knat a bit. A restaurant that is not to be missed is Fum Diss, which is under the cab lane up the system. More "home-at" feel, look for!

A gem that will disappear ... I'm so grateful that you gotta be there before civilization takes over.

But when I shared a lift with an employee, he said; Despite the upgrades of the lift system, we will keep the Alanga spirit, Freeride Paradise!

So maybe there is hope ....

Went down to Champoluc hoping to run pads and offpiste in Alagna. During the time we were there, Alagnas cabin was closed for 9 days. Got to go to Gressoney instead and go next to the slopes and in the big ravine, which was okay. It did not snow too much, but instead the sun shone all the time and thawed the snow. Champoluc ski area sucks big and Gressoney is almost as bad. The areas are too small simply. First of all, you could have traveled helplessly on the Monte Rosa massif, but it costs a lot.
Lucky that we then chose to live in the right valley so we had to go every day anyway. But by Alagna, it became nothing of it. Therefore, can not rate the resort.

A fun place !!! the lifts are quite ancient !! However, they were building a new cabin course when I was there in April 04. Do not know if they are going to keep the old lift, but it goes slightly higher than the new one and gives you more opportunities to get down from the mountain! ! There were formerly two dragon lifts even higher up on the glacier, but they have settled down for a while .... lots of offpiste and you really do not need to get crowded !!! The same lift pass also applies to Gressoney which is definitely worth a visit !! Alagna has a nice old burlift from 1956, I think the lift killer said .... where you have to take a race, run and then jump on the elevator on the go. Are you two starting to run from two different starting positions .... The village of Alagna is really beautiful and really worth a visit !!!!

So nice skiing you can imagine .. sun gases and 1 meter pillows!
One disadvantage for those who have a fear of terror is the lifts .... it's an experience to ride them! If I remember correctly, the cabin was in 1929 .... But, as said, very awesome!

If it's ok then it's bad, it's bad, it's really bad. If the cabin is closed, not much happens. If the ball is closed the valley is very boring. Pretty vulnerable place partly due to old lifts that break apart + that the sun quickly melts away a nice lice.

Does not agree to non-existent lift queues. Every Saturday / Sunday this year it was about 1.30h queue to get up with the cabin.

A good tip to go here is to buy the book Powder Rosa. It describes all offpist rides from Alagna away to Champoluc. Invaluable.

The rumor says that next year there will be a new cab that will make it easier for Gressoney and a lift from the Salzadalen to Alagnas peak station (how it will be?).

The small village of Stafal above Gressoney is tactically better but has abslout nothing to offer in the evenings. Bet on this place.

In Alagna, skiing is true, nothing else! But skiing is rocking!
The lift queues are nonexistent, even on weekends when Italians come from the Milan district that comes there for a slow ride in the slopes. The offpiste we have northerners for ourselves!
I experienced the best pillow of my life here on a Friday morning after a snowy Thursday ...
A warning only: they have trouble with the top cabin this year, and if it does not work, neither will you come to Balma or Gressoney without a helicopter.

Viva Alagna!
I just have to say I love Alagna. It's absolutely wonderful ... but it can be snow-proof. What we got to experience this year when I was down for 4 weeks in February, we had snow shortage. Well, that's not what you want in a place you go for its off-piste ... but it's still beautiful. You get to know the locals in a way that you do not usually do in major tourist resorts. We had a wonderful time down there and when the snow finally fell, there is nothing going on against Balma.
I will go back!

Alagna Italy by Gunnar
Mountain man is quite right in his description of Alagna.
I would like to add that if you're thinking of going there so much snow is on. The cable car will probably shed a beautiful day and with the small number of skiers on the mountain there probably will not be money to build a new one.
Grading a place of this kind is impossible. Days with nice weather and nice cushions or spring snow is a clear 5.a. Windy days with poor visibility, cardboard or scratch nose are 0 points, and those days are good at all high hopes.
So to get something out in all the weather, good skiing is needed plenty of time and the most important, a mountain guide.
If you only have a charter week, choose another place. Stay in one of the granndalar instead and head over to Alagna when the conditions are right.
