Avoriaz gets a 4 as it is part of the Portes du Soleil. Since the whole area is reached by skiing, it gets a 4. Personally, I think Avoriaz is the best resort I have been here 3 times in total. Avoriaz is lovely because you have ski-in ski-out everywhere. And it is a cozy village with good restaurants.
The skiing is really good even though it is not that high. There are all types of terrain and off piste is easily accessible. Around Fornet there are several good runs. Also at Lac-Intrets there are some nice off-piste runs. When it comes to piste, there are as many as you like. Up on Chavanette there is Mur swiss which is considered the world's 5th steepest slope. Feel free to stop at the restaurant next door and have a beer. But the slope down is no big deal, huge mogul slope as it is not possible to ski.
I highly recommend a lunch down in Lindarets. There is plenty to choose from and it is in a pot. So here you sit in t-shirt already in February.
When it comes to after-ski, there is Folie Douche where it is full speed. Otherwise, Le trappeurs is a really nice place to have a beer in the sun. In the restaurant road there is a lot. Full enough and most places are good. The best bar is Shooters which has a good atmosphere. The Place is also worth a visit. As a nightclub there is Le Yak, small door under The Place. Note they usually open after midnight.

Arete de intress is a pretty good hill. Some mixture of red and black even that it is black all the way. More than 1 km down to Super Morzine. Le mur Swiss Wall is a mogul slope so it's not a big deal. Actually the only time I have ridden a lift down and then I dare say I am well better than most ski instructors.

Spent my first winter season as a tour guide in Morzine, near Avoriaz. The ski resort is mostly known to Danes and Brits, which may surprise me considering its strategic location. Only a few hours to Geneva airport, access to the entire ski system Portes du Soleil (over 600 at post) with skiing in both Switzerland and France. The village is car-free, has very different architecture and lies alone on a cliff. That alone makes Avoriaz worth a visit. With everything from easier riding for children / beginners, more challenging riding such as Le Mur and good opportunities for free riding, there is something for everyone.
Do not miss: The view of Mt Blanc and the friendly staff at Les Clarines in Les Lindarets
Feel free to miss: To miss the lifts up to Avoriaz, the alternative will be helicopters

Varying piste and offpist range for all levels. Good snow & sunshine. Excellent flight & transfer possibilities. Varied accommodation from lgh to hotel. Good other options like swimming, bowling and excursions. A town = large lift system Portes des Soleil with journeys in France and Switzerland. Car free and idyllic. Great restaurants from crepes to stars.
Best accommodation original since 1967, Hotel des Dromonts.

Skiing like that, quite short slopes and you can go around a lot to get variety.
The best part is a charming car-free city where all staff were very nice even in restaurants despite bad French.
The worst are the lift queues, have never been more in the elevator queue than here, and in principle they are forced to go down to these lift queues again as the Avoriaz system does not go so high above the village.
Nice place with my heartfelt but do you focus on skiing, go somewhere else?

Great ski resort where everything is on the slopes. The skis go on in the morning and are barely taken off all day. large selection of slopes but also with a good offpiste if the snow allows!
Have been there twice in the last two years February-March, 2015 we had stubborn sun and focused mainly on the ride in the piste. In 2016 we felt that we did not explore him all the areas surrounding Avoriaz so we once again went there. The whole area is magical as you can ski around the whole village and should this be demanding, there is the imaginative possibility of horse and wagon.
The area at Switzerland and the "wall " has fantastic offpiste. 2h with the skis on the back and you have fantastic pillows and good slopes. Maybe not for the extreme skier but excellent for those who want to start their offpiste experience somewhere!

Easy-going ski area. It's big as a thousand and the variation is good. Just plus, really, except that the whole area is quite low so there is a risk of bad snow.

Very cute "resort " with horse and sleigh as prime transportation, clear Disney feeling. Plenty of good food and drink.
Have not tested the off-piste here but it seems to be scratched, it seems to be a piste that applies.
I would say that you go here for the village, not for skiing. But I can be wrong, we had bad snow and were tired of my legs

Saying just one thing: Ski-in ski-out, is there anything better !? Forget about buses and trains, go skiing instead ... Avoriaz is completely car free (here are some road vehicles and horse and sled that handle transport. Therefore you can ski everywhere and that was also the village built in the mid 60's at approx. 1800 meters altitude. Morzine, which is the original village, is located further down the valley where you easily get through the system, why you would like to do that ?.
The slopes are varied and there are slopes for everyone and some parks. Off-piste it is everywhere outside the piste and allowed to go. The system is big and it's very close and easy to cross the Switzerland side, where one of the world's five steepest slopes is also; "Wall ".
Avoriaz is nothing for the extreme skier, but there are better places, but maybe not in the Alps. Then go to the US or Japan instead.
The village is not a party town but there is a quite wide variety of restaurants with different orientation and price ranges. As in many places in the Aplerna, the hotel rooms are relatively small but ok. In Avoriaz, the hotel is mostly Lgh hotel.
When we were there Feb / March 2012, we also had incredible weather with clear blue sky, wind and sun just the whole week, but no news ... :(
Will definitely be back sometime, but maybe not next year ...
