Bakhmaro

Ski resorts in Georgia
In the western part of Georgia, near the Black Sea, there is an area known for its abundant snow and a ski season that extends from November to March-April. The snowfall amounts here are on average comparable to some of the best ski destinations in Japan. This is due to similar weather phenomena as in Japan. The ski area is located only about 50-60 km from the Black Sea coast, allowing the cold air masses from the north to gather moisture as they pass over the sea. Eventually, this moisture transforms into snow that falls on the mountains in Georgia. There are no ski lifts in the area; typically, people go catskiing to reach the slopes.
