What do you think about Cortina d'Ampezzo?
Went to Cortina during the 2004/2005 season with STS Alpresor (during February), and it is undoubtedly a very cozy place, where skiing is becoming part of a larger whole - life (and aftershine) in Cortina has a tendency to become very little bompa-bompa a la German alporter, and more to the Italian life-style style.
For my part, this was a good fit, and skiing was really a very good class - despite acute snow shortages this season. The pistols must have worked their way to get the slopes in the condition they were - for snow was not really there (the snow depth varied between 10-80 cm) and when we were there it would not have been snowing for three weeks.
I can only imagine how the offpiste would have been if it was good with snow - probably completely divine, as the Dolomites offer a beautiful mountain range that invites both high alpine skiing and forest skiing.
When you go there do not miss the other resorts in Dolomiti Superski - such as cozy Alta Badia (good snowmobiling there too !!) and Arabba (with the Marmeladaglaciären).
I highly recommend this ski resort - however, be prepared for the fact that the offpiste is not allowed (tracked by ski policemen) and that it is not uncommon for you to meet Italians who either have terrible snowwear from the 80's or worse - a mink fur in feedback. :-)
However, it is seldom liftkö and the resort is really awesome, so it will be a high rating - despite the snow shortage of the year.

The world's best place!
Have been working two seasons in Cortina and have been there several times since then. Is hard not to love the place. I know, the phrase is tired, but Cortina is really a place where you can live La dolce vita. Read "Flinas" posts below to get a really good picture of how beautiful and amazing Cortina is.

I can only say .... Molto Bene !!!!!!
I lived and worked in Cortina the winter season 2003/2004.
Cortina is absolutely amazing and unique. The mountains of the Dolomites are incredibly beautiful and dramatic and the slopes are the best I have traveled!
They are always very well-groomed and lift queues do not exist.
The ride is very varied, there are areas for clean beginners but also VERY nice black & red trails for those who want to drive a little harder.
Women's World Cup goes there every year ...
If you get there to go offpiste, I can only say Congratulations! You will be alone to want a fluffy unspoilt snow outside the piste .. well good: it's all yours!
One tip may be hiring mountain guide to get some tips on where to go. A warning sign is that it is forbidden to go offpiste in a way that may endanger others. This is checked by police who are running the system all day long. But the worst thing that can happen is about € 30 in fine (and you can live with that :-)
Do not go to Cortina if you're after afterski with umpabumpa, jäger shots, big beer & sweaty substitutes ... it's much more sophisticated in Cortina .. afterski almost does not exist. You better drink a good Amarone wine & again some good cheeses & sits and little ones talk a bit after skiing, then you eat a cruel dinner followed by drinks & forward hourly hours rocking the city going on and driving all night .. That party is clear !
In cortina there are no "bummer", there are tourists and a few tour guides so if you do not go there & work as a guide, I recommend a holiday. Most tourists are Italian and they only ski if the sun is shining and if it is snowing, they do not stick the nose outside the door;)
The myth says it's very expensive in Cortina, but I do not think it's right at all. It is an Italian jetset place and the main street Corso Italia is full of rich beautiful people in fur, moonboots, yummy sunglasses and all of course have a little dog! :-)
But despite that, the prices for food, ski passes, parties, skis etc are not more expensive than elsewhere so do not let it deter. :)
Additionally, the ski pass, Dolomiti Superski, will give you the opportunity to travel in one of the world's largest ski areas. There is a lot to explore there, so do not just stay in little Cortina without leaving & visit the other resorts too!
Total sumarium, Cortina d'Ampezzo is worth at least one visit!

Absolutely wonderful little town. Spent parts of my first season in the alps there. It was 96/97 so it has passed a few years. However, I think it's most similar. Cortina with the surrounding mountains is at first glance captivating. Not because the skiing looks great, because the mountains are completely different from the rest of the Alps. The Dolomites named in the area are in rock age, measured only the children compared to the Alps. This means that in the sunrise / sunset, the mountains shine in red because of the coral that once abounded.
Still about nature.
If you like manchester and getting lost in the slopes, Cortina is the place for you. Every morning you meet with newcomers everywhere! If you then place your lunch a little later than usual then you will have the slopes for yourself. It's a truth with modification. There will pop up some Alberto Tomba wannabees with spandex bralls and pass you in a hurry. However, you will see them later with a glass of wine in your hand talking to any lady in the outdoor dining room.
Offpist possibilities are believe it or not, huge! It is not as easily accessible as, for example, Val Thoréns, but it is there. The tip may be to book a guide a few times and squeeze him / her on as much info as possible. Combining this with a guidebook is happiness. If you are the adventurous type that does not mind bringing braces and harness as well as ropes, there is a lot to do.
When you're there, buy a Dolomite lift pass for God's sake. Do not miss the chance to go to Arabba and the Marmolada glacier. There is very cool! But it may be in another review.

Very nice skiing and an unbeatable nature. Heavy slopes that suit everyone with plenty of snow. Really good food in most places. A real classic that suits everyone, both inside and outside the slopes.
Additionally, it's an incredible feeling to slow down (or soon if you want) that back with the huge rock wall, as you've lost the world cup players. This is a real ski resort that everyone should try. Take a ride on the skates and take a ride on the famous skating rink where the Olympic Games and Bondfilm have taken place. Here is everything.
One of the few disadvantages is that there are very many people in the slopes, but if the weather is getting a little worse then the crowds disappear quickly.
Very hot recommendations!
