Metabief

Métabief is located in the French Jura Mountains, near Pontarlier and the Swiss border. It is a ski resort focused on families and groomed-trail skiing, with runs through the forest on the slopes of the Mont d’Or massif. Here, skiing is more about accessible groomed trails than high-alpine terrain and large backcountry areas.

Easier runs dominate, but there are also red runs for those looking for more of a challenge. Beginner areas and a snow park round out the offerings. Skiing is now concentrated in Métabief, Troupézy, and Super-Longevilles. Piquemiette, formerly the most challenging sector in the area, had its lift and trail operations suspended ahead of the 2024/2025 winter season. The relatively low elevation makes snow conditions vulnerable to mild weather. The resort has documented both warmer winters and reduced snow cover, so check which sections are actually open before your trip. Métabief is best suited to families and skiers seeking easy to intermediate groomed-trail skiing in the Jura Mountains, rather than those prioritizing steep terrain.
