Shemshak

Located in the Alborz Mountains northeast of Tehran, Shemshak is one of Iran's most classic ski slopes, with a clear profile towards skiers who want steeper pistes and more challenge. The resort opened back in 1958 and has long had a reputation for being sharper and more demanding than many other options near the capital.

The elevation is high for the region, with skiing roughly between 2,550 and 3,164 feet, giving a vertical drop around 1640.4 feet. The lifts consist of two chairlifts and several tow lifts, and there is also night skiing during certain periods.

The snow is often a big part of the experience here. The combination of high altitude and drier air means that Shemshak can often offer lighter, finer snow than you might expect, and several sources highlight snow quality as one of the resort's strengths when winter delivers.

For those who want to go off-piste, there are also opportunities. Shemshak is often mentioned as a place where you can find off-piste skiing close to the system, with natural lines and side terrain that can be reached from the top when the conditions are right.
