What do you think about Banff?

I was there in 1997 living in a superb hostel in Lake Louise. It is located next to the hotel area located at Lake Louise Tourist Office. Skiing is reached via a local bus. The skiing itself was very good for being in April. The back of the mountain had a superb puckle pail dressed in three black squares.

Be there now on the sports license and there was not much snow so you had to stick to the slopes
we were in lake louise and sunshine village.
Lake Louise was not as grand as I expected but areas for offpiste were found in plenty but there was no snow.
Sunshine village was much better than Lake Louise.
You had to take the gondola up to the mini-village where all the lifts leave and it was almost just chairlifts.
Here there was a real cannonboat and if there had been more snow, it would have been unlimited.
The town Banff is really nice and there are lots of shops
but 20 hours in an airplane is a bit difficult for example. with 40 degree fever it would probably have been a little more convenient to go to the alps, since canada does not offer much more besides an annoying tree border
at 2000 meters but if you have the option, just pack the bag and go there

The skiing was okay, Lake Louise was ok but not amazing. Lots of Japanese who go bad and smoke * laughs *
The city of Banff is fun for anyone who likes North American style. Great food, shaggy bars, huge shopping. North American sports gadgets are cannon-priced. A must is to try and get around a bit in the area, visiting the giant hotel is an experience. It is expensive to live there but not extremely.
We headed to Banff and found an accommodation with a family through the tourist office. Absolutely ok and good price.

Banff City is not that fun. Bergen Lake Louise as well as Sunshine village were super good !! Clearly recommended.
Disadvantage: Must go bus 20-45 min in from Banff city but it was worth it.

Banff ... I was in winter for 4 weeks in Canada and carried and tried different places. Banff was by far the worst place for too many people (Japanese in overalls). I would instead recommend people to go to Rossland (Red Mountin) or to Whitewater. Two small towns with absolutely beautiful rides, especially in pillows. Make as I skip the bigger resorts cheaper and better.

Banff itself does not go skiing. Here you eat and shop. Now, go to Sunshine or Lake Louise, 25 and 45 minutes away. Sunshine became probably my favorite, mostly because there was more snow there (and it's obviously so). 3 mountains which are largely reached from the same valley station as well as Goat's eye mountain which has its lift station a transport away. When the snow is coming, which it does occasionally, you do not need to look for the pudding nose. It's rather reversible, it's impossible to avoid! The feeling you have on the planet home after 2 weeks in is Banff absolutely amazing. Certainly, I miss the fall height and the real high alpine that the Alps can offer. But that's the only thing. The quality of the snow, the slopes, the lifts are superb. T o m lift queue is a positive experience (you who have traveled the 4-chairlift from the Lake Louise valley station understand what I mean).

Go there now! / Robert
