Giants Ridge Resort is located in Minnesota's Iron Range, northwest of Duluth, an area often referred to as "America's Icebox" due to its cold and stable winter climate. The ski area is built on a rocky ridge and reaches a peak height of 1,792 feet, providing relatively long and even slopes for the Great Lakes region.
The resort has about 35 slopes that are mainly characterized by good flow and clear slope, with a focus on cruising piste skiing rather than extreme steepness. There is plenty of skiing for beginners and intermediate skiers, as well as a separate children's and sledding zone. For freestyle skiers, there is both a simpler and a more developed park adapted for progression at different levels.
Giants Ridge also has a clear historical connection to cross-country skiing. The area was originally developed as an Olympic training facility, and the cross-country tracks around the ski area are still kept at a level used for competition and elite training. This means that alpine skiing and Nordic coexist naturally at the same destination.
With its efficient lift system and high capacity, Giants Ridge is well adapted for weekend and holiday skiing without feeling crowded. The combination of reliable snow conditions, a clear piste focus and strong cross-country tradition has made the resort one of Minnesota's most appreciated ski resorts among returning skiers in the Midwest.
