Glencoe Mountain

Glencoe Mountain is located on Meall a’ Bhuiridh above Rannoch Moor, just east of the Glen Coe valley. The ski area reaches 3,504 feet and has about 2,503 feet of vertical drop, an unusually large amount for British skiing. Nine lifts provide access to 19 runs and approximately 14.9 miles of skiing, with the longest run measuring 1 mile.

The lower section has easier terrain, while the upper mountain is more interesting for experienced skiers. Main Basin and Happy Valley offer more open skiing, while runs such as The Wall, Spring Run, and the steep Flypaper provide more of a challenge. With good snow coverage, there is also off-piste terrain close to the runs and exposed terrain on the backside, but navigation, wind, and rapidly changing weather require experience.

Snow conditions depend primarily on natural snowfall and can vary considerably. Atlantic weather can bring substantial snowfall, but also mild weather, rain, and lift closures due to wind. Glencoe is considered Scotland’s oldest ski resort, with lift-served skiing since 1956. This is a good choice for skiers who want to experience steep and varied Scottish mountain terrain, but the trip should be based on the current snow report rather than the calendar.
