Hemsedal is located between Oslo and Bergen and is one of Norway's largest and most well-developed ski areas. Thanks to its inland location and high alpine terrain, Hemsedal has a long and normally snow-sure season, with skiing from about 640 to 4757.2 feet above sea level.
The ski area is divided into several distinct parts that make it easy to find skiing that suits different preferences. The higher sections offer more open mountain skiing with longer continuous slopes, while areas further down the mountain have more protected skiing in forests. The drop height and piste lengths are generally greater than in most Swedish ski resorts, which means more skiing per run and less focus on transport.
Hemsedal is also known for its variety of terrain. In addition to groomed slopes, there are marked off-piste areas and easily accessible freeskiing from the lifts when snow conditions allow. Forest skiing is a clear feature, especially at medium altitude where the slope is often even and skiable for large parts of the season. For those who want more challenging skiing, there are steeper sections, competition slopes and opportunities for summit tours in connection with the system.
The facility also has several parks of different sizes, which means that both younger riders and more experienced park riders will find options that suit them. At the same time, large parts of the ski area are clearly adapted for families and groups of mixed levels, where long blue and green slopes make it possible to ski the entire mountain together.
In conclusion, Hemsedal is a ski resort that combines vertical drop, variety and mountain feeling in a way that appeals to skiers who want more than short runs and limited areas, without having to travel to the Alps.
