Les Crosets

Les Crosets sits high on the Swiss side of Portes du Soleil, above Val d’Illiez and close to the French border. It’s more of a ski area than a classic village, but the location is a major strength: you’re right in the lift network with quick access to Champéry, Morgins, Champoussin, and onward toward Avoriaz.

Skiing around Les Crosets is varied and relatively snow-reliable for Portes du Soleil, largely thanks to the higher elevation. You’ll find wider groomers for carving, red runs with a good pitch, and multiple routes onward through the system. If you want to cover a lot of terrain in a day, Les Crosets is one of the most practical bases on the Swiss side.

The most famous challenge is Chavanette, often called Le Mur Suisse (the Swiss Wall), which drops from the border near Avoriaz down toward Les Crosets. It’s a steep, ungroomed mogul run that can be seriously demanding when it’s hard-packed, icy, or heavily bumped up. In better snow conditions it becomes more manageable, but it’s still a clear warning sign for inexperienced skiers.

Les Crosets is best for skiers who prioritize location and skiing over village life. It’s a great choice if you want to stay close to the slopes, have fast access to Portes du Soleil, and be able to switch between Swiss runs, French sectors, and more challenging terrain around Chavanette.
