St Luc reviews

Saint Luc is a small village with a handful of hotels. It is not really a village at all, but a collection of old and slightly newer mountain huts. It is very quiet and peaceful, there are a few cafés-bars and a couple of restaurants in addition to the hotels. Hotel Bella-Tola was built in 1859 and is still going strong. The entire valley, Val d'Anniviers, is located in French-speaking Valais and is idyllic. It is the valley before Visp if you come from Geneva and is also below and behind Zermatt. From the village and the ski area you have an incredible panorama including Matterhorn, Weisshorn, Obergabelhorn, Dent Blanche etc. etc. A funicular railway is about a 10 minute walk from the center of the village, there is a shuttle bus that runs every fifteen minutes. From there, a couple of tow lifts and a chairlift leave. The ride is long, rolling red slopes, a fun black down to the village. Very few people in early January, I estimate mostly domestic visitors. Very good skiers, ski clubs and so on. If you want to see more of the skiing in the valley, there is a free post bus to Griment-Zinal which has a bit steeper skiing. It takes 40 minutes from St. Luc to Grimentz and in the morning and afternoon you don't have to change buses in Vissoie. From Grimentz a large cabin goes over to the Zinal area "Espace Weisshorn". That's where the best skiing in the valley is.
