Troodos Ski Center on Mount Olympos is one of Europe’s most unusual ski experiences. It’s a very small ski area high up in the Troodos Mountains, with skiing roughly between 5,679 and 6,401 feet and a total of about 2.5 miles of slopes.
The setup is simple and easy to navigate. There are four main runs with short lengths, with Zeus on the north side being the most well-known since it’s FIS-homologated and used for competitions. The lifts are short as well: a chairlift on Zeus and T-bars on the other runs.
As you might guess, the snow is more unpredictable than in the Alps. The season is usually short and often runs from early January to late March, sometimes more in the range of December to February depending on the winter. When conditions are good, you can get beautiful, sunny days with a surprisingly wintry feel—but this isn’t a place you go for guaranteed weeks of stable coverage.
Off-piste and tree skiing aren’t the main draw here. The focus is on short runs, a quick few turns on skis, and the unique feeling of being able to ski on a Mediterranean island.
