49 Degrees North

Located in northeast Washington, close to the border with Canada, 49 Degrees North is a distinctly locally-rooted ski resort with a focus on varied terrain rather than size and luxury. The facility is run with a clear community perspective and attracts mainly skaters from the Spokane area.

The ski system offers a good mix of open slopes, natural clearings and forest skiing. The terrain is clearly tilted towards the playful and technical direction, with plenty of tree skiing and natural formations that make skiing interesting even without extreme steeps. The drop is clear enough for long continuous runs, but at the same time the area is perceived as clear and easy to navigate.

Snow conditions are favoured by the inland climate, with colder and drier snow than on the coast, which often provides good conditions in the forest. Off-piste skiing takes place mainly within the facility's boundaries in the form of unpaved and sparsely forested terrain rather than pure backcountry.

49 Degrees North is not a pronounced destination for beginners in the first place, but is best suited for skiers who appreciate varied terrain, forest skiing, and a relaxed atmosphere without crowds. It is a ski resort where the skiing itself is at the center.
