Have no evil to say about Andermatt. Really nice / big mountains and the great fall height offer great rides and long runs. Cruel offpiste already during New Year's Eve 2009. Small cozy town with proximity to Oberalp and Sedrun on the same ski pass by train.

Visited Andermatt for the first time during the past week and the place owns! Cozy alpine with quite quiet nightlife and a lot of restaurants. We simply stayed but incredibly fresh for 50 CHF / night including breakfast. By ski bus just outside it took about 5 min to the cable car, which goes up to Gemstock. From there, there are many beautiful yokes. If you want to hurry, the world is literally for one's feet.
We tried parts of the Giraffe, Felsentahl (about 1500 m fall height ...) and Guspis. But the best ride we had after a 40 minute easy climb to the back of a top next to Gemstock. Endless loose snow, very untouched even though it did not snow in a week! After that it was stabbing about 10 km (included in the calculations) to get back to the village, but it was worth it.
Forest skiing is not allowed but at the end of Felsentahl (to the left of the ravine) there is a nice trail with little small trees and shrubs at a fair distance. Again, much was untouched despite a week without snow.

If you want to sneak piste there are better places. If you want to enjoy a long lullaby, Andermatt is world-class. We are coming back!

Andermatt does not have much to offer on off-road skating, but for those who like to carve on the slopes, it's a very good option. Snow amount is okay for the most part. There are some good offpiste places but very hard to get to .

The snow amount was not the best while I was there but I think so well, alright.

v.11-09. It will not be better than this. New pillows every day for joy to us who are first up, and you can find untouched - for a long time ...
Some queues on the weekend, but in principle empty during the week. Peerless.

The snow was falling down ... and down ... and down ...

7th Feb 15:43, at Gemstock's peak there had been 100cm last 24h.
And the snow continued coming ... and coming ..,

8th Feb at about the same time 50cm last 24h.
During this time, the gemstock peak station was closed due to low infarct but the ride on the other mountain was fantastic despite poor visibility.

9th Feb opened the top of the gem stock and it felt like the pearl gate was opened !!
The ride from this peak was fantastic, with very little effort, you could reach amazing, snowy and unspoiled surfaces.

Looking for offpist = Mecca
Looking for many groomed pistes = Hades

Forget about Engelberg, dream Andermatt

Unfortunately, old snow but still good skiing.

The advantage of Gemstock is that you can always see where you will end if you go outside the piste. Very easy to navigate mao. The mountain reminds a little of Les Grand Montets, with much smaller people.

Also easy to get to Sedrun. Just climb the train in the center, after two stops, you get to Oberalppass and take the tow lift into the system. If the fog is thick on Gemstock then you may well find good rides here instead, which we did.

Negatively there were two slow gondolas to come up. But they are well-educated in the context of major investments currently under way.

The village is nothing for party freaks.

Difficult to post tips on offpiste scratches ... Would take a few days to enter. However, there are two musts in Andermatt. Big skis and skins. There is so much fun offpiste within a half-day hike that you could easily spend a season here. The problem is that you may need to convert to like guys. Not a woman in sight (under 45).

Do you like life and party: do not go there, guaranteed to die after 9:00 PM:) ...

duck mat is amazing !! Do you have a bad luck with the snow when you get there (I've had twice) to go up to the rossboden and go down the canal. that sentence should not be feasible in case of good snow conditions. endless offpiste opportunities. If you are lucky with the snow, you can drive almost everywhere. cheerfully said it is forgiving. In addition to unforgettable skiing and Swiss cozyness, the village has two good things: falafel and ochsenkaffe, andsenkaffe you go to the pub with the same name (the nanting ...) the falaffelsnub can not be missed when you come down from the hustle and bustle. not so much party, but that's probably not why you have to drive to the other night. hi goodbye good.

Andermatt is a gem!

There is a really sharp black pist, but you can get tired of it.
Though there is a magic off-piste if you only go a bit outside .. or really just slant a little bit. And all offpist is BRANT.

The prices are very affordable and it is nice that you can usually live at home, people in their understairs or the like for quite reasonable money. cozy!

However, the city is completely dead almost ...

A little sad that, as someone wrote, there's hardly a huge difference between weekday and weekend. Alone in the weeks completely smocked with people from Geneva on weekends.

Go there and go Wednesday to Friday, then go on and you'll be happy, I think!
