Kappl is located in the Paznaun valley in Tyrol, next door to Ischgl but with a clearer family and piste profile than its noisier neighbour. The ski area stretches from about 1,175 to 2,2263.8 feet and offers 26.1 miles of slopes that are reached via 10 lifts – a suitably large system where you can quickly find favorites and grind laps without it getting messy.
The ride is mostly blue and red, with good float for carving and cruising, but there are also some blacker options when you want it to take a little more. A classic is the Lattenabfahrt, a long valley run of 5 miles that provides a solid, continuous run all the way down.
Kappl also has a clear freeride nerve. There are ski routes (a total of about 3.7 miles) and the mountain is used as an arena for the Freeride Junior World Championships, which says a lot about the terrain actually being able to deliver when the snow is right.
If you want more variety, you can also ski in the neighboring resort See, as they share a common lift pass (a total of 80+ km of slopes). This makes the trip more flexible and provides more options if you want to change your surroundings one day, without having to go all the way to Ischgl.
A clear upgrade for the last few seasons is the Diasbahn, which has been replaced by a modern 10-person gondola (commissioned from the winter season 2025/26). This provides smoother transport up to the system and a little better flow from the start of the day.
