Montgenévre

Part of Via Lattea, giving access to huge amounts of rides. For my part, I have only stayed in Montgenevre itself and did not feel any need for larger areas.

It's okay, no Chamonix or Val d'Isere, but still a semi-cozy city, but clearly focused on skiing. Good slopes but above all lots of easy-to-reach offpiste and the same amazing vegetation with larch trees like Serre Chevalier. Should you get tired of the ride here, Serre is also half an hour's drive away.

The fact that Montgenevre is on the border with Italy becomes apparent as food undoubtedly holds a slightly higher level than the French down in Serre. It is always a matter of food when it becomes Italian.

So far, I've only run two full days in the system (total offpist focus) but have had so much fun that we're back in winter on family holidays with children. I feel it says everything you need to know about my review :)

Hidden with cruel riding when it dumped, it managed to take it perfectly when I was there. Quiet and varied terrain. One hit the road, the village was like that.

Fairly nice ski area with some very good offpiste trails. Observatory ending on the road to Briancon, however, is required to retrieve to return to inhabited areas.
Better to start or stay in Claviere neighboring village on the Italian side.

Went here one day in Serre Chevalier. Takes the intrusion trip worth the effort, the system is quite flat and boring. The best part was the lunch downstairs in a town on the Italian side.

Very cozy station on the border between France and Italy. Here the most sliders from Italy hang out skiing three quarters a day, they spend the most time in the restaurants, leaving a lot of rides for everyone else. Not many seasoners either, so the offpiste found is relatively untouched long (according to the bummer I met).

Cozy town with great food at the Italian taverns. Quietly, there are a couple of bars claiming they have disco..wealthy.

As Montgenévre is only 20 minutes from Briancon, it is a good alternative to Serre, at least for a short period of time. I was there in December (plugged in Aix) and then there was plenty of snow.

This is a bit of a hidden gem ... Mostly English charter tourists and Italian upper class.

You do not exactly find the world's most dramatic lines here, but even the powder snow below the gondola was untouched one week after the last snowfall.

A real brown billiard bule is the closest you come to night life, but the lady at the rental agency is insane nice !!
