Morzine is located in the northern French Alps, right on the border with Switzerland. It is the largest village in the gigantic Portes Du Soleil ski system which contains several resorts on both the French and Swiss sides of the border. The most interesting of these from Morzine's point of view is probably the neighbor Avoriaz, which together with Morzine forms a hefty system all on its own.
The ski system in Morzine offers mostly flatter skiing and well-maintained slopes that suit the beginner well. The more advanced riders will probably want to move to other places in Portes Du Soleil. The same goes for those who want to get above the tree line to a greater extent, Morzine is relatively low and most of the skiing around the resort takes place below the tree line.
Morzine's low altitude also means that spring comes relatively early in the village. For those who want to be able to go all the way home in the afternoon, it is therefore recommended to be a little earlier in the season. Of course, the lower altitude also means that the temperatures early in the season are much more manageable!
