Pallas

Pallas is located at Pallastunturi near Muonio in Finnish Lapland, within Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. It is a small ski resort with nine runs and two T-bar lifts, but with open fell terrain rather than the feel of a typical small ski hill. The skiable vertical drop is approximately 1,115 feet, and the longest run is 1.5 miles. The terrain ranges from beginner slopes to red runs.

Natural snow is central to the skiing experience. No artificial snow is used here, and the resort also describes the runs as ungroomed. The mountain’s natural contours therefore matter more than smooth, corduroy pistes. Pallas is an option for those who want varied natural snow rather than prioritizing a large selection of groomed runs.

Off-piste skiing is an important part of the area’s character, with lift access to the open fell terrain. However, that does not mean the entire mountain area is a controlled ski zone. For trips beyond the runs, route selection must be adapted to the weather, snow conditions, and the national park’s regulations.

The base is Lapland Hotels Pallas, located directly by the slopes, with a restaurant, equipment rental, and ski school close to the skiing. Pallas is best suited to skiers who prefer a small lift system, natural snow, and a mountain environment over many miles of pistes and a wide range of services.
