Was in Saas-Fee week 3 2005.

The positive: Very nice town. Walking distance and close to everything. Long nice red backs, good carving backs. Fair price level (with Swiss dimensions). Glacier skiing which means that it is always possible. No lift queues at all when I was there. A "metro lift" up to 3500 meters which was very smooth. Known as a sun paradise, which it really was when I was there. Picnic in underwear in January is not wrong.

The less positive: Small system. Fairly limited to a van. Too little for a week's ride, I clearly think. Glacier skiing that has several consequences. Glacier cracks, fatal to lay out of boundaries. Bad offpiste possibilities mao. Then, Glaciers also means anchor lifts, which I'm not a big fan of. Long transfer if you flew to Geneva. Took around three hours and then there was good weather.

There was not so much snow when I was there so some unpaved runs were not open. Had it been more snow, it would probably have been more cloudy. We went to Zermatt (45 minutes from Saas-Fee) one day and there was a little else. Zermatt is royal! Heard that STS was thinking of driving some Saas-Fee / Zermatt trip, and I would recommend it. Saas-Fee is too small for a week but a very nice city to live in and some slopes are really beautiful but with three days in Zermatt it would work well.

I have been to the Alps before, am good and go more than 15 days a year.

Have it ..

This review and rating applies for the winter season 04-05.
This is my first season I did, so I really do not have much to compare with. However, I have been around 4-5 major ski resorts both in the Nordic countries and in Switzerland, but no long-term trips, only up to a week.

Just this season there was record snow in Saas-Fee. It was said by locals that there was not a little snow in 10 years. I guess the number of pillows was around 5 in the whole season. Due to the snow shortage, the outpouring was quite limited. That, as I heard, was good enough, Morenia did not go because there was not enough thick cover snow layers over all the stones. Nor was the forest from the plateau accessible.
In other words, it became quite limited offpiste skiing this season.
Early in the season, the summer park was shapely well due to camps and the like. I think it was in early December that it started to go
go down to maste4. Somewhere there they stopped shapa summer park and began to build the winter park (which only consisted of a pipe). I do not remember exactly when, but I think it was at the end of December as the beep in the winter park began to become feasible. However, it was the only one that existed. However, more and more things appeared, so at the end of the season there were, besides the pip, some jump rails and a quarter that, rarely, never really became good.
As far as the slopes are concerned, I do not think it was particularly fun slopes, it's very short parties that are steep. Did not test the slope from Platjen itself. (if I'm to be honest, I spent most of the season in the park, the nerd that you are ...)

What I think was positive were the people. First of all, it is a very small city, which means that you get to know people quickly. I do not know how it is with other ski resorts, but of those who used to be in the park, I think I could name over 75%. Just this, everybody knows everyone and are friends, made me feel very comfortable.
The village is not that big which I thought was nice. It took maybe 30 minutes to go from one end to another (it's quite oblong). Basically, all younger locals are awesome and open to season, so the atmosphere among the people thought I was very nice. However, I suspect there is something that you may not notice so much if you go there for a tourist one week. Nightlife is quite limited, if you were planning to party and dance on a table there is basically just Popcorn, which is usually a good move. However, there are several other smaller pubs that are really cozy.

In any case, you are a little more driven rider who is looking for free skating and / or a cruel park is probably not Saas-Fee the right place. On the other hand, if you want a peaceful skiing holiday and do not plan to party every night, I think Saas-Fee is a great choice.

I will go your season 05-06 also, and then be there the whole season, ie from early July to early May. I hope and expect the snow conditions will be better then. Will possibly return with a review from that season later.

P.S. It might be a bit long and dull, it blames the fact that the time at the time of writing is 03:47. D. S.

The positive in Saas fee is the people, the ridge and the idyllic village. The people are nice even though not everyone speaks english, go board you can do year round for there is glacier. And there's something fun for snowboarders, if it's not a pipe, it's rals, big jump or a boardercross course. In addition, they have several restaurants with good food both in the hill and in the village.
The lovely, however, is the romantic village with all its small streets and small shops. In addition, there are no exhaust gases because only electric cars can be used there. The people are nice and it's easy to get in touch with them. There are also many bummer from different cities and countries.

Negative is the prices of everything, Saas fee is expensive. But when your wrist is there, it's a place you fall in love with and will always return to.

It is said that if you got a Schweitzer as a friend, it will be the friendship to keep your life out. And I have to agree!

I thought I would post a review on Dear Saas-Fee, when nobody did it ... I've visited Saas-Fee 3 times, the first two times were at the end of the summer, so only glacier skiing was about. At the glacier they had 2 pipes and some big-jump. Because the clouds are usually lower than this, it's almost always nice weather there. Both times when I was there, there were many national team and pro-camps there and it is probably the most often in the summer. Both slalom and freestyle ... This means that the pipes are full of skiers and the slopes are full of skiers. It does not matter, you just get more peppered! 3rd time I was bumble there over the winter. It was awesome, very nice skiing only there is snow. From February to March it's finest, because it can be quite cold before that. Saas-Fee has nice off-piste skiing, unfortunately it is packed with glacier cracks, which makes it quite dangerous in some places. The ski guards can also be quite angry at the outfit, because in several places it is completely forbidden. As for pipe and parking, it's like that. The winter when I was there they had a good pipe, but almost no bigjumps and rails. The pipe was usually good when it was not filled with pillows. There are good places to build your own BC-kick and rails can be found further down the village. The village is also the best one can imagine. It is small = close to everything, you can only enter the village from the slopes. All streets are narrow and cozy, no cars allowed in the village. Local families drive around in low-priced electric cars, but only two legs are needed because the village is so small. I'm really in love with Saas-Fee because the village is so incredibly beautiful, small, romantic and atmospheric. However, the ride could be better ...

PS. I do not agree with what someone else wrote about schweizers here at Freeride, I think they are as nice as everyone else, just about finding the right people. I have many good friends there! DS.
