They lure you with a post on Instagram that you could ride the ring on the slope at 13:30 to 15:30 but when we came there and asked where it was they said it was next to one of the chairlifts although when we came up there were neither staff nor rings there. We asked the staff who were sunbathing and they said there was a staff shortage. Before we went there we had even called and asked and they said you could ride rings and they said yes. IF I COULD HAVE GIVEN ZERO STARS I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THEM ZERO.

Today, my family and I were actually on our way to Kappruett with a very tempting post on Facebook, we chose to go to Tänndalen and ride the ring on the slope and for safety's sake we called them and double-checked that you could ride the ring today and you could. When we got there, we went and asked where you could ride the ring somewhere and then they said it was in a lift a little further away. When we came up from the lift we saw neither any staff nor rings at the track so then we went and asked some other staff who were sitting and sunbathing and they said that there were too few staff. So the only thing we could do was to go on the all-ice slopes for the rest of the day.

Love Tänndalen with the best slopes around Buskvallen and good parking there. Friendly staff all over. Good children's areas and especially krokskogen.

Fantastic nice ski resort v16 2024. bright sun, no lift queues, good food in several restaurants and free ski test on the main slope.
Varied skiing with nice pistes, park, small ski cross track and the possibility of some off-piste.

Probably food poisoning in the restaurant with no option to extend the lift pass

Live an hour away up in the mountains but as a food poisoner have to take myself down and an hour away to visit their doctor to be allowed to go skiing. Didn't ask for a refund, just to postpone the skiing a day ahead. But expected as nausea to go away for their doctor to make an assessment on my food poisoning. The question is how the mountain doctor in his little cabin should make this assessment. No one else sick in the party so probably food poisoning in their own kitchen. Sad for an otherwise nice lift system. Sad also for sad children who don't get to go

Family-friendly ski resort with off-piste possibilities and top tours. Nice off-piste at the bottom of the system near the Swan Lake lift, beyond is also the Japanese Forest, which must be tested if you happen to spot a really snowy day. Also went up to Svansjökläppen, which offered a wonderful mountain experience with some great turns down.

Regarding Hamra syd, it was not a great nature experience, but good for exercise, the skiing is however better near the lift facility. Was maybe a little too little snow, when I was there.

If you have to mention something less good, the facility is very spread out, which means that it takes a while to get from one end to the other.

Although Tänndalen offers a somewhat lower drop height, I don't think it's something you suffer from.

Then my daughter and I have the honor of being a test pilot for Freeride. I won a weekend in Tänndalen and would write a review after that so here it is.

Hanna and I chose to go the weekend week 6, which would mean that "Hamra Syd", Tänndalen's investment in a "guarded" summit tour area would premiere the same weekend, perfect. As often, we started extremely early in the morning and that meant that we would be up just in time for lunch with the opportunity to ski even on Thursday afternoon. When we pass Funäsdalen at 12:30 and start approaching the lift system ourselves, Hanna exclaims next to me. -This feels like real mountains! And that is precisely one of the things that separates the Funäsdal area from its southern neighbors, Idre and Sälen, here there is a greater mountain feeling. The expanses are endless, the forest is mountain birch and not spruce and the cottages are scattered a bit everywhere and not in too drawn cottage areas. The mountain feeling is irrelevant to some, I will only go skiing, but it is definitely something I appreciate.

Once there, it was a quick lunch and then out on the slopes, but with such a short time, we decided to stay close to Hammrafjället where we lived. Hammrafjället is one of four "base stations" along the mountain side on which the area is built. Starting from the east, Svansjön, Tännporten, Buskvallen and along the west is Hammrafjället, which is also the area where most of the accommodation is located, as well as shops, ski shops and more. A bit of the central town even though it is located at one end of the system. Said and done, we skied the rest of the day in Hammra and it was almost a long time. In our opinion, Hammrafjället is Tänndalen's weak point when it comes to skiing itself. Relatively low drop with slopes that are first flat, then a steep slope that again becomes a long flat. We were actually quite disappointed and started during the evening to plan which day we would test Funäsdalsberget so we would get a little more varied skiing.

Day two we decided to discover the whole area and start by taking the farthest to the Swan Lake lifts. Now long flat transport distances waited away to then test each base area separately. We thought! Instead, the traverses were completed fairly quickly up in the mountains and down through the birch forest, wonderful skiing was offered to the next area. If Hammarfjället was a disappointment, the rest of Tänndalen was a happy surprise. We re-planned and stopped and tested where it felt good and it did it all over. Tänndalen is packed with varying red slopes that are very well prepared and in week 6, the guests are told that nothing has happened even at closing time. I would not say that the area is an off-piste gem, but everywhere, both on the bare mountain and in the birch forest, there are small short runs to do. Unfortunately, the wind blew all weekend we were up so most of the bare mountain was blown away, but in the shelter some riding snow was collected.

When we finally got to Svansjöliftarna and the area called Freeride Paradise, I thought that everything would be unpaved and quite difficult to ride considering the current conditions, but even here there were some piste slopes and some unpaved which unfortunately did not contain any lovely loose snow this week. . On the other hand, the forest around Svansjön had accumulated a lot of the snow that blew away on the bare mountain and there are many nice rides here. Especially in the forest east of the entire facility. Old birch forest with a nice slope and maybe a little too tight between the trees to attract the mass, but then there is so much more for those who master a little denser forest. Fortunately, there is a cross-country trail at the bottom that can be followed back to the lifts, so traversing through deep snow in the forest is not a concern. A little stacking on finely groomed skate tracks and it's time for the next turn.
After a few times we steered the skis back towards Hammra again but with several "stops" on the way with piste wear and lunch on the slopes. We were completely satisfied after Friday and it continued the same Saturday and Sunday. It goes faster than you first think to get around the system so no problem living where you want along the mountain side. The area is well enough for a long weekend and if you stay longer and start to get tired, you are not far to Funäsdalsberget or Ramundberget for more variety.
For those of you who are looking for a modern lift system, you can look at other places. Tänndalen has a luxury lift with wind protection and heat in the seat, two more fairly old chair lifts and the remaining trailer lifts. No problem for me as the lifts are very well placed and give you good ride from the time you get off until you are down by the lift again.

Then there was Hamra Syd, Sweden's first summit area with its own downhill map (piste map), avalanche protection, prepped summit trails, sparse forest and slightly built jumps. I like the idea, really. The trip up goes through the birch forest and it is nice to not have to track through the snow while you have the peace around you. I chose to take three rides before breakfast both Friday Saturday and Sunday to form my own opinion and just get to experience the peace because that is a big part of why I choose to go on a summit trip. Unfortunately, there was very little snow when we were up and the built features that were available could not be used and that the slopes where you really wanted to pull on were mostly ice and moss huts. And unfortunately, Hammra Södra has the same problem as its twin in the system. It starts to get very steep and then gets flat and then gets steep again. My feeling was that here, as a good skier, you can have really fun during any day or as a change during the week in Tänndalen. For those who are good on the off-piste and want to test on a summit trip, it is spotless, sparse birch forest, jumps, slopes and features in an avalanche-proof area, perfect. For those who, on the other hand, are beginners on both summit and off-piste, I think the area is too difficult downhill. I am very curious about how the area will develop and will definitely spend a day there next time I am up, but with the chances for a summit trip that already exists in the area with Skarsfjällen, Helags, Skravarna, and Vigelmassivet in Norway, it will probably only be one day. A big plus is that most of the area is in the forest, which provides the opportunity for good skiing even in flat lights and storms on the bare mountains.

As a whole, after a weekend in the system and its slopes, my daughter and I were able to state that we wanted to return. Mostly for the ski area itself but also the nice atmosphere that prevails among the staff in the whole area! We just met happy and friendly staff.
And the trip to Funäsdalsberget, yes it never happened so it will be a bonus next time. We had such a good time where we were!

Erik and Hanna.
