Ben Lomond is Tasmania's premier ski area and is located in Ben Lomond National Park, just over an hour from Launceston. The ski system reaches an altitude of 1,1870.1 feet and has 7 lifts that serve a manageable network of slopes. The terrain consists of open slopes and gentle runs, rather than steep challenges.
This is a resort that is mainly aimed at beginners and families. The slopes are easily accessible, the children's areas are safe and the atmosphere is calm. For the more experienced skier, options are limited, but the area works well for an introduction to skiing or as a day trip during a Tasmania trip.
The facilities are simple – ski hire, café and a few accommodation options are available – while a wider range of services can be found in Launceston. The atmosphere is relaxed and genuine, and the nature around is at least as much a part of the experience as the skiing itself.
