What do you think about Cervinia?

Have just returned from a week in Cervinia.
What struck me and my friends was that:

Very flat system. Red pistes here are like blue in other places and felt most like transport. You should not have to stand up. Get black (2 pcs). Went one in Zermatt (neighboring system) which was black because it was narrow. You got stuck even here on a stretch. Above all, you get patience in the lifts. These average on average 3 times per trip without a real reason ??? Many were quite less on this and that many lifts were closed because it blew litegrann. Probably because the Italian aunts would not get their fry destroyed? Annoying that you did not get to many slopes due to closed lifts.

One tip is to take the closed piste to the far left of the system. Here you can get easily accessible untouched rides when hardly anyone goes off piste in Cervinia.

Valtournenche has the same flatness and lies lower = less snow.

Be sure to go over to Zermatt! Better skiing here.

Cervinia is the perfect place for those who like to take out their carving swings, find untouched snow and go skiing world-class! Have spent two winters here. Returns every year.

The bars in Cerbvinia are quite nice but the length is nothing to complain about. Pist No / "Ventinan" is great to start the day with. Starting at 3400m.ö.h and ending down in the village of 2000m.ö.h.

The interconnected system with the neighboring town of Valtournenche also holds the measure. A good scratch is to start at Cervinia's top Platue Rosa and then head over to Valtournanche lift station, from 3400 m.ö.h down to 1700m.ö.h. Fantastic. The last bit you can find forest skiing.

Master class will be if you cross the Zermatt side where you will find ALL! The Matterhorn side has super skating on all levels.

Do not miss all the wonderful restaurants on the slopes.
* Ullas, or Chalet Etoile as it's really called. Swedish lady driving
* Tene de Baracon, Valtournenche. Here you will find typical Italian home cooking. Here you get crowded with the lift staff, the pistons and the ski police!

For those who have a car, the Aosta Valley is perfect to go to when you can use the lift pass in all places! Other pearls you will find within an hour's drive: Champoluc, Gressoney, Pila, La Thuile, Courmayer, The lift passes out in Chamonix one day, takes about 1.5 to get there from cervinia

Cervinia has the most to offer! Flacka backs in Cervina but the length of them is not to complain.
The linked Valtournenche has varied rides, but fully dressed worth a visit.
The opportunity to go over to Zermatt puts the spot on this ski trip. Amazing slopes to offer plus stunning views on the highest peak Klein Matterhorn / Piccolo Cervino.
The offpiste on the Italian side is long and is amazing! Forest skiing can be found in the Valtournenche.

The restaurants in Cervinia are top class in the hill and in the village. Do not miss
-Allas, Swedish lady driving (actually called Etoile)
-The baracon (Valtournenche)
-Copa Pan
(For the one by car)
-Now goodbye
-La Gurfo

Night life is good. There is variation and a lot of mixes, seasonals, villagers and tourists alike on the dance floor. Do not miss:
-Bainco Nielgo
-Dragon pub

was there 1-7 March 2006. Snowed 90cm in 48 hours so I do not know what it's like when it's "normal" a lot of snow. Old lift system problem I never encountered, thought the technology and the condition of the lifts were far beyond expectation. At least where you went the most. Of course there were less good lifts on the outskirts of the area.

+ Italians think the type of being shot if leaving the slopes so it was almost totally unclean just a bit outside the piste. Just swing straight out of the piste for a while, you had completely untouched places.

+ Many and cheap restaurants on the slopes

+ Many lifts, buy international ski passes, so you can go to zermatt by just taking the lifts / cabin up to the plateau rosa.

+ Long yard thanks to the high mountains.

+ There were other options to go on if Cervinia is closed during the day, Val Tourenche (<-stavning?)
is at a lower altitude but works fine as a replacement place, the cervinia card works there as well.

- If you are looking for a steep piste ride please do not hesitate, maybe it's not the best choice.

- there might be a better range of things to do in the evenings, there is a good bowling open in the evenings and in bad weather even during the days.

Summary: Snow-proof place that is quite flat in the slopes but very accessible offpiste skiing.

I do not want to recommend serious skiers to go here. The town has the character of the eastern state, the lifts are old and slow, the slopes consist of a lot of transport stretches and it always seems to blow on the Italian side. These wind conditions make the Italians often close the lifts. It is time to get up to the Zermatt side. At 10 o'clock the Italians close.

Have a friend who was here last year and then the lifts were closed because there was too much snow !!!!!?

The glacier is very slippery but further towards Zermatt skiing is quite ok. Just do not miss the last lift back to Cervinia. It will be expensive otherwise! About 1200 SEK for two people in a double room for one night. Driving a car / bus is not to be considered as it is safe for 5-6 hours to get there. In addition, the St Bernad's tunnel costs 22 euros easy road.

The best thing about Cervinia is that the system is built with Zermatt, where skiing is much better.

Here comes some info to complement to other reviews of Cervinia / Zermatt.
I was there for a week at the breakpoint Feb / March 2005.

snow conditions:
Although it did not snow for several months in the Italian Alps, the snow was overwhelmingly good.
Just to thank the height.

Snowboard:
There are some transport stretches in the slopes. This is especially true when crossing between Cervinia and Zermatt, but it also applies to certain slopes on the Zermatt side (Klein Matterhorn).
As a snowboarder, you have to be able to stand down the hill and collect up to speed to handle some of these transport stretches. It is quite difficult to get a freestyle board at such speed without getting a beat.

Difficulty:
As said nothing for serious skiers.
There are basically no black slopes, everything is red.
Can be recommended for families and friends because it is easy to hold together (wide slopes) and that there are no difficult crossings.

It was in Mars a few years ago and in the village, which is at a respectable 2050m high, the rain poured down and everything was splashed. But then we took the elevator 500 meters up to Plan Maison where the drive starts. Now it was snowing and we went to the side of the piste in the decimetric snowy snow. It was morning up at 3500m in a small cabin where the Italian pistons stood at the bar and drank the espresso "Testa Griga".
Then it was a couple of days in a row. Rain in the village and snow in the slopes. When we went home, we met other Swedes on the planet who did not have the same trip as we stayed, but stayed in resorts with a much lower altitude.

I would also like to agree with previous reviews that there are amazing surfaces to go on both outside and in the piste. Together with Zermatt Trockner (you can not access all 3 Zermatt systems without "just" one) Cervinia is talking about really "fat" skiing!

Enjoy

A very nice ski area !!! a lot of offpiste opportunities that do not go up especially fast of Italians, who prefer to be in the well-prepared slopes with their Ray Ban and wrinkle-shrinking hairstyles ... helmet ?? no no, then I'll ruin your hair! jaja .... If you buy the lift pass in Zermat you also get a lot more driving and a little steeper and higher falling altitude .... The majority of Cervinia is relatively flat and is ideal for families, but as you said you would like to find really nice offpiste too !!! was there April 04
