Monts Jura is located in the French Jura Mountains, in the Pays de Gex near Geneva. The name brings together three separate alpine ski areas: Lélex-Crozet, Mijoux-La Faucille, and Menthières. They share the same lift-pass partnership but do not form a continuous lift system. In total, there are about 22 miles of slopes and 19 lifts. In clear weather, Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc are visible from the higher elevations.
Lélex-Crozet is the main area for experienced piste skiers, with up to 2,559 feet of vertical drop and the highest lift-served skiing at 5,512 feet. The Lélex side has longer runs through spruce forest and the most room for skiing with a substantial elevation change. There are more demanding pistes here, but also easier options for those not looking for the steepest possible way down.
Mijoux-La Faucille places more emphasis on beginner-friendly and intermediate skiing, even though there are steeper runs. Mijoux and La Faucille are connected by the Val Mijoux chairlift, and the village of Mijoux provides a base among traditional Jura houses. Menthières is the smaller option, mainly for families with children and for first turns.
Snowmaking is available, but mild winters can limit snow coverage, so check which sections are open before you travel. Monts Jura is best suited for piste skiing near Geneva, with Lélex-Crozet as the top choice for those looking for more of a challenge.
