Skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing at the Mount Peter Ski Area dominate the activities once the snow begins falling. It is the oldest operating ski area in the state, and it is also one of a handful of family-owned winter venues in the region.
Several airfields exist around Mount Peter, but ski bums flying in can use the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City to get to the state. Ground services, including rentals and the NYC Bus Service. Motorists can use Interstate 87 before transferring to State Highway 17A.
The Mount Peter Ski Area opened in 1936 to showcase ski apparel for Macy's as much as it did for skiing. Its association with the department store chain may have dissipated over the years, but this small skiing venue has continued to provide service. Today's guests can enjoy a drink in a rustic bar setting or enjoy some family recipes while taking in the view through floor-to-ceiling windows at Pete's Pub. Pete's Closet offers guests a chance at some shopping, and visitors can find lots of amenities in nearby Warwick or along the I-87 corridor.

The winter resort tries to maintain a 60-inch base by supplementing natural snowfall with machine-made powder, with 100-percent of the ski area cable of snowmaking.
With two lodges, pub, rental & repair center, retail shop, tubing birthday party room, and crepe stand, most guest needs are found on-mountain at Mount Peter Ski Area. Traveling skiers and snowboarders should note that the rental shop allows them to travel light if they use the bus system to travel from the Big Apple.
Guests of all skill levels are not only welcome to the Mount Peter Ski Area, but the winter venue provides plenty of terrain for all. Nearly 70 acres of mountain slope is available for exploration, and new skiers and riders will find the resort a beginner's paradise. Of the 14 trails on Mount Peter, 35-percent are rated green for beginners, and roughly the same percentage of runs have a blue rating for intermediate skill levels. The remaining 30-percent of the Mount Peter Ski Area is rated black diamond for guests with advanced skills in the snow.
Outside of alpine skiing and snowboarding, the Mount Peter Ski Area also has a terrain park that allows guests to rip and shred to their heart's content. Features change and develop over the season, so each trip to the venue can provide guests with something new. Snow tubing fans will also find a 600-foot run here.
