Located in Lackawaxen Township in northeastern Pennsylvania, Ski Big Bear is a somewhat unusual ski resort in terms of its design. Here you will find the base area, parking and services at the top of the mountain, which means that you start the day by going down to the lifts and then make your way back up again. This provides a different but efficient ski flow – especially appreciated during intense holidays.
The facility is open to the public but is also part of the Masthope Mountain Community, where property owners receive season tickets through membership. With a vertical drop of around 649.6 feet, Ski Big Bear offers more variety than you might expect from a regional ski slope in Pennsylvania.
The terrain is clearly divided and easy to orient yourself in. There are several easier slopes and a cohesive learning area, while more experienced skiers will find steeper options such as Thundercloud and the distinctly more demanding Screamin' Demon, which is marked for experts. For freestyle skiers, there is both a terrain park and the Devil's Bowl area.
The lift range consists of four-seater double lifts that cover the entire mountain as well as several conveyor belts in the beginner's area, which makes Ski Big Bear particularly convenient for families and groups of mixed levels. All in all, this is a well-organized ski resort with an unusual layout, clear level division and focus on efficient skiing rather than large-scale destination tourism.
