Schladming

Ski resorts in Austria
Schladming is an old mining town in central Austria (the most eastern part of the alps) which today is a tourist destination. The ski system is shared with a few other villages, with lifts covering four mountain peaks in total: Planai, Hochwurzen, Hauser Kaibling and Reiteralm. In other words, there is a lot to choose from! To make things a little easier, there are free ski-bus connections between the lift base stations, which is great if you want to get to your preferred skiing area quickly.
As is the case with many other places in the eastern part of the alps, the mountains are not as high as those in the west and most of the ski systems are located below the tree line. Don’t feel put off by this though. Skiing here is still advanced enough for professional skiers. Schladming is often the organizer of the alpine world cup. And on two occasions, in 1982 and 2013, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships have been held here.
