40 minutes north of Lillehammer is the Skeikampen ski area. A ski resort with a funny name for us Swedes as it is pronounced "Tjejkampen". Like many other things near Lillehammer, Skeikampen is perhaps best known for its cross-country skiing, but there is plenty of downhill skiing here as well. The drop of around 1082,7 feet is not enough for the Norwegians to classify it as anything other than a family area, but compared to Swedish family resorts, there are plenty of bare mountains with associated off-piste in difficulty from beginner-friendly to very advanced, there are some steep chutes in the large cliff that dominate the ski system at the top.
However, just because the resort is Norwegian does not mean that it is called a family area for no reason, much of the skiing in the area is child-friendly and for the very youngest, there is a large children's area with two conveyor belts and two warming huts right next door. In Skeikampens park there are two lines, one blue and one red, and the area is illuminated so that it is possible to drive even when the sun is not up.
In addition to the usual things that ski resorts offer in the form of restaurants, spas and other alternative activities, there is the opportunity to learn to go on a kite course and learn snowkiting for both skis and snowboards. In the summer, cycling opportunities are enormous, but there is no lift-based ride.
