Jahorina is located just southeast of Sarajevo and is the country’s most well-known ski area, with a clear mix of affordable skiing and history. The women’s alpine events were held here during the 1984 Winter Olympics, which is still one of those details that makes the place stand out.
The skiing is roughly between 4,265 and 6,286 feet, with a vertical drop of around 2,021 feet. The area’s size is described a bit differently depending on the source, but plan on about 25 to 31 miles of groomed runs, and a longest run of roughly 1.2 miles.
The feel on the mountain is often varied and fun, with both wider runs for speed and sections that get more technical when the surface is firmer. There are also opportunities to find off-piste terrain close to the lift system when conditions line up, especially in the wooded areas. Snowmaking is available and is important for keeping the season going when the weather swings.
