Luossabacken

Luossabacken is the local ski slope in Kiruna. It has a vertical drop of 156 metres, two tow lifts in use and four slopes. From the 19/20 season there is also a new chairlift that increases the lift capacity. The total piste length is as long as 1,6 miles, impressive for a Swedish local slope! There is also a proper park with both jumps and railfeatures.

A ski slope that is located in such a cold hole has some kind of right to have some special reservations, and if it is colder than -20 °C, the slope is closed. When it's open, the summit offers a nice view of Kiruna and the surrounding Arctic environment. At the bottom, on the other hand, there is a café and ski rental. In the summer, there are several different downhill courses for those who like to cycle, an activity that is made much easier and more comfortable with the new chairlift.
