Mont Orford

Ski resorts in Canada
The Mont Orford National Park includes several mountain peaks and year-round recreational activities, including alpine skiing and riding at the ski area that shares the park's name. Visitors to this winter venue will enjoy one of Quebec's higher summits and a variety of downhill terrain types. There are plenty of visitors that learn to ski or ride with lots of forgiving runs and beginner's areas.

Motorists will find eastbound Autoroute 10 from Montreal, Quebec, the quickest access to the resort. Exiting north or Route 141 north of Magog puts drivers at the entrance. The Montreal Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport will receive guests flying into the region. Americans driving from the New England region will find I-91 through Vermont the most direct route.

One of the Highest Summits in Quebec

One feature that guests can enjoy at the Mont Orford ski area is the fourth highest resort summit elevation near 2,790-feet. That helps establish the 1,932-foot vertical drop at the winter resort, which creates the varied potentials that guests work down. The Espace 4 Saisons sits at the foot of the slopes, offering lodging packages that include extras based on the season. Visitors will find a host of accommodation options in the surrounding Eastern Townships.

Le Virage, the Slalom Pub, and the Mont Orford cafeteria offer guests a range of dining options on the slopes and provide a meet-up/resting spot between runs. The Ski Shops in Magog and on-site sell the latest equipment matched to a skier or rider's needs. A rental center handles the needs of visitors who arrive without gear, with daily and seasonal renting options available.

The Snow School at the Mont Orford ski area offers several classes to get first-timers up and onto their skis or snowboards. Several children's sessions are organized by age groups, with other sessions provided for adults or private instruction. A Snow School Foundation helps support the quality instruction available at this winter venue.

Hiking, Skiing, and Riding for All

Winter hiking has recently arrived at the Mont Orford ski area, with several trails available for guests to walk. Passes are available for November through May, and guests must agree to the rules and regulations to safely enjoy this new winter activity. The ski area does have an Uphill policy for those looking to challenge themselves at a resort that has developed trails and summit shelters. Mont Orford does not patrol the ascending mountain trails, so safety should be everyone's top priority.

Three mountains provide four slopes for downhill skiing and riding. The Mont Orford ski area is known for the 18 skiable glades that visitors have access to, along with the 44 runs. Two snowparks add additional terrain worth exploring, with the slopes divided equally among green/beginner, blue/intermediate, and black diamond-double diamond/advanced- expert ratings.

Many of the green trails can be found on the lower portions or between peaks at the resort, with advanced and expert terrain located on Mont Orford or Mont Giroux. Seven lifts move guests uphill here, including magic carpets in the beginner's areas. Lifts are located on all slopes.
