Mt Dobson

Mt Dobson is a family-run ski resort on New Zealand's South Island, located in the Mackenzie district between Tekapo and Fairlie. The resort is located between 1,700 and 2,98.4 feet above sea level and has three lifts that provide access to a varied area with around 400 hectares of skiable terrain. The location on a sunny southern slope means that the resort often offers good snow conditions and open spaces with fantastic views of the Mackenzie Basin.

For beginners, there is a large area with wide, easy-to-ski slopes near the base and a ski school that welcomes both children and adults. The average skier appreciates the long red slopes and open fields that provide plenty of room to develop the technique. Advanced skiers can seek out the steeper sections or explore the freeride in the side terrain. The atmosphere is relaxed and the lift queues are short, which makes it easy to get many rides in a day.

The base area offers a café, rental and simple service. Most people choose to stay in Tekapo or Fairlie, where there are restaurants, shops and lodging. Mt Dobson is particularly appreciated for its friendly atmosphere, large open skiing areas and the feeling of being far from mass tourism – a classic "kiwi ski field" with genuine character.
