Shizukuishi

Ski resorts in Japan
Shizukuishi Ski Resort is located in Iwate Prefecture and is known for its stunning views of Mt. Iwate, the highest mountain peak in the region. The resort offers 20 well-maintained slopes, including an FIS-certified slope for large-scale competitions, and three impressive terrain parks that challenge skiers and snowboarders alike.
Shizukuishi, which opened in 1980, has a long history as a flagship destination during the bubble era. Although some parts of the ski area have been closed and some of the lifts are no longer in operation, the resort still offers a good range of long runs and varied terrain. The current cable car is 930 metres long, and the ski area also has a 1,357-metre chairlift and four other chairlifts in operation.

Despite the fact that Shizukuishi has suffered some wear and tear and some signs of financial constraints, the resort is still popular for its beautiful views and high-quality snow, thanks to the cold and dry weather that blows in from the north. There are 20 slopes that vary in difficulty, with the longest run at 3,400 metres.
