Tazawako

Located in the Akita Prefecture of Japan, Tazawako Ski Resort is primarily a favorite among locals, but with a growing reputation among powder lovers. Although Tazawako is not so well-known among international ski tourists, it offers a unique combination of cultural experience and great skiing.

The resort is located on the beautiful Lake Tazawa, Japan's deepest lake, which does not freeze during the winter. Here you can enjoy the mirror-like lake or focus entirely on skiing in the freshly fallen powder!

Tazawako, located on the western slope of Mt Komagatake in Semboku City, is the largest ski resort in Akita yet relatively small compared to larger ski resorts. With its six ski lifts and 13 slopes, the resort offers a drop of an impressive 1994,8 feet. There are four chairlifts, as well as three slopes that are left untouched for those looking for untouched powder snow and a special slope through forest areas. Backcountry tours are also available for those looking for adventure.

Despite its size, Tazawako is a great choice for those on a road trip in the northern Tohoku region. The ski resort has a rich history and has hosted several national ski events over the years. Since its opening in 1969, Tazawako offers a unique combination of beautiful scenery and challenging skiing.
