Antelope Butte

Ski resorts in USA
Located in northern Wyoming, in the Bighorn Mountains, Antelope Butte is a ski slope with an unusual history and clear local roots. After being closed for several decades, the resort was reopened in the 2010s through volunteer work and is today run as a community-owned and not-for-profit ski resort.
Skiing in Antelope Butte is easy and direct, with naturally shaped slopes on open slopes and elements of forest. The drop height is 1000.7 feet, which provides enough vertical for continuous runs without the area feeling large or fragmented. The terrain is mainly suitable for piste skiing, but in good snow conditions it is also possible to ski outside marked slopes directly adjacent to the lift system.

The facility has limited infrastructure compared to major destinations, but that is also part of its character. The focus is on skiing rather than ancillary activities, and the pace is calm even on weekends. Antelope Butte is widely used by local skiers, schools and associations, and is a clear example of how a small mountain resort can live on through local involvement rather than commercial expansion.

Antelope Butte is best suited for those who appreciate uncomplicated skiing, natural terrain and ski resorts where function takes precedence over façade.
