White Pine Ski Area is located just outside of Pinedale in Wyoming, with the Wind River Range as a dramatic backdrop. This is one of Wyoming's older ski slopes and a typical "locals" facility: just the right size, easy to understand and perfect for those who want to ski with a mountain feel without ending up in the big resort apparatus around Jackson.
The ski area has around 25 slopes, with a good mix where about 25% are beginner-friendly, 45% intermediate and 30% more advanced. This makes White Pine a smooth slope for families and mixed groups, but with enough steeper skiing that it doesn't become a pure transport slope.
In addition to alpine skiing, there are also groomed trails for cross-country skiing, which is well suited for an area where many people like to combine different types of skiing. For those who want to stay longer, there are cabins for rent and there is both a ski school and food service on site. The season usually extends from Thanksgiving to Easter, depending on how winter develops.
White Pine also has a dramatic detail in modern times: the lodge built in 1999 burned down in the summer of 2019, marking an era – but the skiing and the local character live on, with a focus on an easy and genuine skiing experience in the Wind River landscape.
