Boyne Mountain Resort

Ski resorts in USA
While it might get the full lake-effect snowstorms that winter venues to the south get, the northern peninsula's Boyne Mountain Resort gets enough dumps to provide Michigan snow hounds what they crave. With lots of apres-ski to spoil visitors when they are off the snow, the year-round venue has everything anyone would need.

Interstate 75 runs up the lower peninsula and puts motorists to the east of the resort. US Route 131 runs parallel and is closer to the ski area. Boyne Falls is just outside the mountain and is the nearest town. International facilities at Grand Rapids Gerald R. Ford (181 miles) are the biggest, but the closest airfield will be Pellston Regional Airport (36 miles).

Apres-Ski Anyone?

The Boyne Mountain Resort offers Michigan's locals and visitors both comfortable accommodations. There are cabins, condos, lodges, and villas renting rooms for solo snow hounds to groups traveling together. The focus for many is creature comforts, so these will not be like staying at a chain motel off the highway. Several venues offer drink and food on the slopes, offering grab-and-go to top dining experiences.

Guest will find both boutique and essentials at one of the eight stores, with plenty of other options in the surrounding communities. Real apres-ski at Boyne Mountain Resort begins with the small things: childcare, shipping & receiving, valet services, ice skating, wagon rides, and breathtaking chairlift rides. If those are not enough treats, guests can enjoy the fitness center, pool, and spa as well.

Visitors to Boyne Mountain Resort can also find plenty to do off-site in the surrounding communities. Guests can enjoy casinos, craft shows, snowmobiling, and wine tasting. Hair, makeup, and nail treatments are also found on-slope or down in town. Anyone wanting to repair or tune-up before they hit the slopes should visit the shop, and newbies or those traveling light can get rentals there too.

Don't Forget the Powder Though

The Boyne Mountain Resort offers guests plenty to do when they are not skiing, but the snow outside is what matters. An average annual snowfall amount of 140 inches is nice, but the ski area also has 90-percent snow coverage. That machine-made powder helps maintain a quality base, improves terrain features, and allows visitors to carve longer into the ski season.

The local park rats love the NASTAR and Wednesday Night League Racing, and several programs are available to improve skills and speeds as guests in training bomb down the slopes. The conditions attract families and newcomers to alpine fun, so the Boyne Mountain Resort staff stay busy with private and group sessions at the SnowSports Academy.

Four full-time and a part-time terrain park allow everyone to rip and shred across various terrain features, with something for each Boyne Mountain Resort guest to challenge themselves and have fun. Sixty trails cross the slopes, with a 500 foot vertical to work down. Intermediate skiers (blue) have 41-percent of the terrain, beginners (green) enjoy 29-percent of the runs, and advanced explorers (black diamond) enjoy the remaining 30-percent of the trails. Boyne Mountain Resort has 12 lifts to move skiers and snowboarders up the slopes.
