Catamount

The Catamount is a classic ski resort located right on the border between Massachusetts and New York, with slopes on both sides of the state line. The resort has been in operation since the 1940s and is considered one of the more high-profile ski slopes in the Berkshire region.

The terrain is unusually hilly for the area and gives a clear sense of elevation, with longer continuous runs than many other ski resorts in southern New England. The slopes range from wide, quieter slopes to steeper sections that attract more technical skiing. The combination of length and slope means that Catamount is often perceived as larger than the map suggests.

Catamount also has a strong focus on freestyle, with several parks that are updated regularly throughout the season and attract riders from all over the region. Night skiing is an important part of the business, and large parts of the ski area are illuminated, which makes the slope popular for shorter sessions after work.

For the avid skier, Catamount is particularly interesting as one of the few ski resorts in the United States where you can ski between two states on the same run – a detail that has become something of the resort's hallmark.
