Snowy time. This is the place for wealthy Russians or people who only ski in completely black ski apparel and fur hats. Or for those who don’t enjoy skiing much – which the typical Courchevel visitor doesn’t do. If you are happy to pay EUR 50 for a pizza topped with truffles then fine, but a cheap feed in the slopes is hard to find. If you get hungry while skiing it is actually smarter to ski over to La Tania or Meribel for a meal.
Courchan is in fact four villages on situated on different altitudes, with the most moderate skiing at Moriond in the far west, the toughest just below the Saulire summit, and long stretches of rolling ski runs through the forest down to Les Praz. The runs on the ridge, which part Courcevel from Meribel can be reached by foot from the mountain station at Lozeliften, if that is your kind of thing.

There is an airstrip in the middle of the ski area, so difficult to land at that a special license is required. The airstrip is famous for having been featured in a Bond movie, and obviously also famous among the filthy rich visitors.

Best Off-Piste:
Grand Couloir. There’s a narrow, tricky path to get there, but this is an awesome chute. It’s not as bad as it looks! If in doubt, take a guide with you.

Best Black Run:
Get up to Loze, then follow Bouc Blanc and turn off on Jockeys – great challenging and scenic black run with a good long finish through the trees down to La Praz.

Best Red Run:
Combe de Pylon. Fab red run from top of mountain – get all the way up to Vizelle and charge down all the way into 1850. Great views and a great run.

Best Blue/Green:
Get Pralong or Super Pralong up to Biollay – magic easy blue with interesting terrain straight back into 1850.
