Kiroro

Ski resorts in Japan
Kiroro is located in western Hokkaido, not far from Otaru, and is one of the island’s most reliable powder destinations. It’s a fairly compact ski area in terms of the number of runs, but the snowfall totals, Hokkaido’s dry snow, and the easily accessible sidecountry often make Kiroro feel bigger than the trail map suggests.
The ski area spans the Asari and Nagamine mountains and has 23 runs, with the longest run just over 2.5 miles. The vertical drop is about 2,001 feet, from roughly 1,870 to 3,871 feet, and the lift system includes a gondola and several high-speed chairlifts.

What makes Kiroro especially appealing is the snow. The area is known for abundant powder, often with cold, light snow that refreshes quickly during strong storm cycles. Beyond the groomed trails, there are several ungroomed, more natural zones where you can find deeper snow close to the lift network—but it’s still important to follow local rules and boundary guidelines.

Kiroro is best suited for anyone who wants Hokkaido powder in a comfortable, well-run resort, without the same intense vibe as Niseko. There are wide runs for more relaxed cruising, but the real highlight is the days after a storm, when the trees and ungroomed terrain get reloaded.

Snowing how much there in January. Fairly flat rake and quite short runs all over. But what does it do when it hurts and the rest of Hokkaido has snow... Read more (58 words)
