Teine

Sapporo Teine is located on Mt. Teine in western Sapporo and is one of Hokkaido’s most easily accessible ski resorts. It’s skiing close to the city, but with a much more authentic mountain feel than the location suggests. From the upper sections, you get views over Sapporo, Ishikari Bay, and the Sea of Japan.

The ski area has 15 runs, 188 acres of skiable terrain, and a vertical drop of 2,241 feet. The skiing is divided into two distinct areas: the Highland Zone higher up, with steeper pistes, better snow quality, and more interesting terrain, and the Olympia Zone lower down, with gentler slopes and a more family-oriented vibe. The longest continuous run is about 3.7 miles.

Teine also holds a clear place in Japanese ski history. During the 1972 Sapporo Olympics, Mt. Teine was used for alpine events, and that Olympic atmosphere still lingers in the area. At the same time, it’s not just nostalgia. When the storms line up, Teine can deliver truly excellent Hokkaido powder, especially in the upper sections and in terrain close to the groomed runs.

Teine is best for those who want easy access from Sapporo but still want to ski something that feels more like a real mountain than a city hill. It’s great for a day trip, with groomers, steeper options, views, and a chance at powder without having to leave the metro area.
